Hike to Save a Life 2024
Join fellow hikers, climbers, and outdoor enthusiasts in promoting outdoor safety.
This summer, we invite hikers and climbers across New England, Upstate New York, and beyond to go for a hike or climb a mountain in honor of all the hikers who have lost their lives while enjoying the outdoors.
This fundraiser helps support search and rescue, seminars and education, and the distribution of emergency beacons.
Get Involved
Take a Hike
Take the appropriate safety precautions, plan your adventure, capture your trip in photos or video, and share it online to spread the word about outdoor safety.
Sponsor a Hiker
Many of our participants ask their friends for sponsorship, either in flat donations or for distance or altitude. There’s no minimum amount to participate; we welcome donations big and small.
Make a donation to the Emily Sotelo Foundation.
Every dollar we receive helps us spread the word about enjoying the outdoors safely. Donate online.
Continuing the Legacy
The 2023 inaugural one-day Emily’s Hike involved teams of hikers who dedicated their hikes and climbs to the memory of Emily Sotelo to raise awareness of outdoor safety. The event raised $100,000 to support ESF’s educational campaign, including donations to:

-
Pemigewasset Valley Search And Rescue
-
Lakes Region Search & Rescue
-
Androscoggin Valley Search And Rescue
-
Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team
-
New England K9 Search & Rescue
Additionally, we developed a safe hiking course that we are now distributing to area schools, colleges, and universities.
This year, we are expanding the fundraising into the Hike to Save a Life campaign throughout the summer, beginning in July and lasting through September, or as long as participants can safely enjoy the outdoors this season.
